YOU SEE books is a photo book imprint publishing visual narratives that read beyond their regional context when told through a deeply personal yet widely universal lens.

Founded by photographer and visual storyteller Ulka Chauhan,  the thematic explorations of YOU SEE books reflect her plurality of perspectives from having been a New Yorker, an Afrikaner, a Zürcher and a Goenkar while always staying true to her Mumbaikar roots.

Our books examine people and place identity in times caught in an incadescent friction between tradition and transformation.

Through The Memory Keepers and Future Seekers the photographs of heritage homes, their aging occupants and family histories, Chauhan explores the relationship between memory, architecture and lived experience.

Through the intimate photographs of faces and gazes of Goa’s citizenry in Facing Goa: A Photo Symphony, Chauhan maps Goa’s social and cultural stratigraphy — onto a human canvas.

With her photographic practice concerning continuity and change, YOU SEE books aim to spark conversation around what is disappearing, what persists and what is becoming.

We invite you to browse through our books to experience the many ways of seeing.
